Men's Golf 14th After First Day at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, VT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 315 and is 14th in a 23 team field after the first day of their 2013 season-opening tournament, the Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury at the par-70 Ralph Myhre Golf Course Saturday.

Hamilton leads after the first day with a score of 291.

For UMass Dartmouth, seniors Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) and Pete Danko (Norton, MA/Norton HS) each shot 75, senior Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) came in at 82, sophomore Sean Griffith (Bourne MA/Bourne HS) shot an 83, and sophomore Colin Campbell (Marlborough, MA/St. John's HS) shot an 86.

"We played better than our score indicated," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We got great rounds from Brandon Oldham and Pete Danko. Brendan Kelleher hit the ball well today, he just didn't score. Sean Griffith had 17 good holes and one bad hole that blew his score way up, and it was an encouraging round. I think we can come back tomorrow and beat today's score."

The tournament will conclude Sunday.
