SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – UMass Dartmouth golf wrapped up the 2015-16 year on Thursday, taking seventh of 10 teams with a score of 324 at the Western New England Invitational at Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Springfield, Mass.
The Corsairs finished just one stroke behind Westfield State (326) and one stroke ahead of Babson (325). Western New England were the victors in their own tournament, accumulating a score of 291 as two Golden Bears, John Abbot and Joseph DaSilva, shot individual rounds of 70 on the 18-hole event.
UMass Dartmouth was led for the second-straight week by senior George Bent (Barnstable, Mass.) who put up an individual score of 80 to tie for 25th in the field of 52 golfers.
Shooting just behind Bent were freshman Ted Romanelli (Acushnet, Mass.) and Jackson Mitchell (Marion, Mass.), who both collected scores of 81 and tied for 29th. Sophomore Jared Fadding (Lenox, Mass.) shot an 82 on the round, and junior Michael Byron (Bourne, Mass.) wrapped up the Corsair contingency with an 87.
The 2015-16 year featured several strong performances for Corsair Golf, including a third-place finish in the 2015 GNAC Championships at Allendale Country Club on Oct. 18. UMass Dartmouth also earned a fourth-place finish at the Southern Maine Invitational in the fall.
