DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth closed out the 2018 Westport Hampton Inn Invitational the Allendale Country Club, posting a total score of 646 over the weekend.

How it Happened

Junior Jackson Mitchell (Marion, Mass.) came back strong despite difficult weather conditions on the course, scoring a 79 through the strong wind gusts and a temperature that quickly dropped over the course of the day. After a 78 yesterday, Mitchell led the squad with a 157 to finish tied for 23rd place. Senior Jared Fanning (Lee, Mass.) posted a symmetrical 81 to his performance from yesterday, finishing with a 162. After leading the Corsairs yesterday with a 76, junior Tom Sheran (Marston Mills, Mass.) came back with an 85 to come in just behind classmate Mitchell with a 161. UMass Dartmouth senior Ben Bedarian (Franklin, Mass.) improved on his score of 85 yesterday by tying Fadding's 81 today, finishing with a 166 overall. As a unit, the Blue and Gold completed the weekend with a 646, going nearly even in each day (320, 326).

Rhode Island College Austin Cilley came out on top of the individual leaderboard, as his stellar finish yesterday of 69 (-3) paced his 146 over the weekend. Cilley finished with seven birdies on the day, knotted for the most amongst competitors alongside Eric Powers of Salem State University. The team winner was Trinity College (Conn.), who followed up day one's 299 with a 307 today for a cumulative 606. The Beavers of Babson College were the runner-ups, scoring a 620.

With 125 birdies today, the 2018 Westport Hampton Inn Invitational finished with 229 total. Furthermore, there were three eagles on the afternoon, completing the two-day span with seven. Institutions pledged dollar amounts per birdie towards the multiple sclerosis (MS) society, with the venue – Allendale Country Club – also contributing an amount per birdie as well. All proceeds benefit the New England MS society.
