Golf Uses Strong Second Round for Fourth Place Finish

NEWPORT, R.I. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth junior Tom Sheran (Marston Mills, Mass.) paced the Corsairs with a 71 (-1) in the second round, helping the squad to a 621 in the Bentley Newport National Classic. With a 297 in the latter half, the Blue and Gold carded its best score in an 18-hole string since 2015.

How It Happened

Entering today, the Corsairs' best mark for a single round was 298, which occurred on Oct. 9, 2015 at the Great Northeast Atlantic Conference (GNAC) Championships. 

Sheran submitted his best single round performance of the season, carding one under par in the final half. He matched senior Ben Bedarian (Franklin, Mass.) for a team-high three birdies, with the latter breaking even on the back nine.

The Corsairs were one of two Div. III institutions to compete at the Cranston Country Club this afternoon alongside Babson College, going to battle alongside a number of other Div. II schools and the Providence College club team. The Newport National Golf Course played at 7,244 yards with a par of 72.
