NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- The UMass Dartmouth golf team posted a third place finish over the weekend at the Johnson & Wales Invitational that took place at the par-70 North Kingstown Golf Course, as the Corsairs notched a team score of 617 to finish 19 strokes behind the host Wildcats and 13 strokes behind runner-up Nichols.
Senior Jackson Mitchell (Marion, Mass.) recorded the low score of the weekend for UMass Dartmouth with a two-day eight over total of 72-76-148, while senior Tom Sheran (Marstons Mills, Mass.) was next with a two-day total of 154 that included a three-over 73 in Sunday’s second round. Freshman Curtis Merritt (Wareham, Mass.) finished a stroke behind Sheran for the Corsairs, while junior Nick Avilla (Westport, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with a two-day mark of 160.
Sophomore Claudio Soukamneuth (Cranston, R.I.) was the overall medalist in the competition, as he fired a three-under 67 in Sunday’s second round to finish with a two-day total of 139 for Johnson & Wales.
UMass Dartmouth heads to Gorham, Maine next Sunday morning to compete in the two-day Southern Maine Invitational over Columbus Day weekend.
