BLOOMFIELD, N.J. -- Freshman Jack McDonald (New Bedford, Mass.) fired a three-over final round of 74 to lead the UMass Dartmouth golf team to a third place finish at the New York University Spring Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Forest Hill Field Club.
McDonald posted a two-day total of 158 to finish 12th in a field of 65 competitors for the Corsairs, who posted a team score of 647 in the event. Senior Tom Sheran (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and freshman Curtis Merritt (Wareham, Mass.) followed in 14th and 15th place with respective weekend totals of 160 and 161 over the par-71 layout, while senior Jackson Mitchell (Marion, Mass.) and junior Nick Avilla (Westport, Mass.) rounded out UMass Dartmouth’s scoring with respective overall scores of 168 and 175 that were good for 26th and 40th place.
Babson took top honors in the competition with a team score of 593, as the Beavers bested host NYU by 15 strokes (608) in the 12-team field.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action next weekend at the two-day Rhode Island College Invitational that begins on Friday afternoon.
