SPRINGFIELD, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 330 and finished eighth overall in a 12-team field at the Western New England College Invitational, Thursday afternoon at the Veterans Golf Course.
The Corsairs' score placed them five strokes behind Westfield State and one shot ahead of MCLA and Tufts. Babson finished first with a score of 306.
Freshman Conor O'Malley (Holliston, MA/Holliston HS) led UMass Dartmouth, shooting an 81 and tying for 25th. Sophomores Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) and Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) each shot 82 and tied for 29th, while sophomore John Coucci (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) and junior Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) each shot 85 and tied for 43rd.
"As a team, we're disappointed," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "The weather and the conditions were perfect, and we know that we need to play better than we did today. Conor O'Malley's play was a bright spot, he bounced back nicely after a tough weekend in our home invitational. He had an 81 today that could have been lower if a few putts had fallen."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Johnson and Wales Invitational this weekend.
