UMass Dartmouth junior assistant captain Kai Kapossy was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Geico Ice Hockey Player of the Week on Monday morning for his efforts in helping the Corsairs claim a pair of wins and skate to a non-league draw this past week.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. who last played for the PAL Islanders of the United States Premier Hockey League, Kapossy netted three goals and added a pair of assists to finish with five points, including a pair of tallies in last Saturday’s 6-1 league victory over Framingham State at Hetland Arena. Kai collected his two helpers in last Thursday’s 7-6 come-from-behind victory at Southern New Hampshire in the PAL Stovepipe Cup Third Place Game that saw UMass Dartmouth rally from a 5-0 second period deficit, and he also scored in last Tuesday’s 2-2 home overtime tie with Assumption.
In 66 career games played, Kapossy has notched 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points, including 14 points during his sophomore campaign a year ago. Head Coach Erik Noack’s Corsairs, who stand at 4-8-2 overall and 3-3-1 in MASCAC play, host Worcester State in a league matchup on Thursday evening at Hetland Arena that faces off at 7:20 pm EST.
