MANSFIELD, CT-Host Eastern Connecticut State scored the first seven goals of the game and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team, 14-5, in the semi-finals of the Little East Conference Tournament at the Mansfield Outdoor Sports Complex Thursday evening.

The Warriors built a 7-0 lead before sophomore midfielder Justin Lawless (Quincy, MA/Archbishop Williams HS) ended the run when he scored with 2:08 left in the first quarter. Senior midfielder Alex Reposa (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury HS) scored to open the second quarter and Lawless scored again a few minutes later to make it 9-3, but ECSU scored two of the final three goals of the half and led at the break, 11-4.

Lawless and Baxter each finished with two goals for UMD, while Reposa had one. Michael Sullinger led the Warriors with four goals and four assists, while Jeremy Cogliano had three goals and two assists.

"We got too far behind in the first quarter, and we couldn't catch up," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "They moved the ball well, they cashed in on all of their opportunities. They're a good strong team. We kept fighting back and we didn't give up."

The Warriors outshot the Corsairs, 44-28. Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Thayer (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) made nine saves for UMD before being relieved by sophomore Jesse Johnson (Pembroke, MA/Pembroke HS) for the final 7:57, while Jamie Tommins and Drew Deans combined to make 12 saves for ECSU.

UMass Dartmouth dropped to 10-6 with the defeat, while Eastern Connecticut improved to 11-5 with the victory. Eastern Connecticut advanced to Saturday's championship match, in which they will host Keene State. UMass Dartmouth was eliminated from the tournament with the defeat.
