Men's Lacrosse Downed by 20th-Ranked Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, CT—The 20th ranked team in NCAA Division III had just a bit too much for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team in their non-conference match at Silfen Field Tuesday evening.

Host Connecticut College took a 4-1 lead after the first quarter, led 6-2 at halftime and went on to defeat the Corsairs, 11-5.

Junior midfielder Jordan McPherson (Westwood, MA/Westwood HS) and sophomore midfielder Dennis Healy (Hanover, MA/Hanover HS) each scored twice for UMass Dartmouth, while sophomore attackman Connor Gaffney (Andover, MA/Andover HS) added the other goal for the Corsairs. Andrew Freedman scored four goals to lead the attack for the Camels.

UMD out shot Connecticut College, 37-34. Junior goalkeeper Nick Thayer (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) made nine saves for UMD, while Bobby Bleistein and Andrew Fritschi combined to make 11 stops for CC.

UMD dropped to 6-1 with the defeat, while Connecticut College improved to 6-2 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Southern Maine Saturday. Connecticut College will host Montclair State Friday.
