DANBURY, CT-A.J. Barbieri scored with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give host Western Connecticut State a 13-12 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team in the final Little East Conference match of the regular season at the Westside Athletic Center Saturday.

Barbieri's goal broke a 12-12 tie. The Corsairs had come from behind twice to tie the game in the fourth quarter on goals by senior attackman Bobby Young (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS), once with 9:01 remaining and again with 4:02 to play.

Western Connecticut State took a 6-3 lead after the first quarter, but UMass Dartmouth outscored the Colonials in the second quarter, 5-1, to take an 8-7 lead at halftime. Each team scored twice in the third quarter, and Mike Nazarro scored twice for WCSU in the fourth quarter to put the Colonials back on top, 11-10.

Young led the Corsairs with four goals, junior attackman Andrew Foster (Newbury, MA/Danvers HS) added three goals and three assists, junior midfielder Mike Lee (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro HS) scored twice, and sophomore midfielder Stephen Espinola (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable HS) had a goal and an assist. Sean Macey led WCSU with five goals, and Kirk Zachary had three assists.

"We played very well, although it took us a quarter to get in the flow of the game," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "We couldn't stop Sean Macey. It was a good offensive game. We had our chances to tie it up and we just came up short at the end of the game."

UMass Dartmouth out shot Western Connecticut, 44-34. Corsair freshman goaltender Kevin Pelsinski (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack HS) was credited with six saves, while Tyler Martone made 19 stops for the WCSU.

The Corsairs dropped to 6-8 and 3-4 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while the Colonials improved to 4-11 and 2-5 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Plymouth State in a first round Little East Conference playoff match Tuesday.
