NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Little East Conference opponent Plymouth State on Saturday evening at Cressy Field.
UMass Dartmouth moves to 9-4-0 with the win and 4-1-0 in the LEC, while Plymouth State drops to 5-5-3 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play.
The Corsairs offensive attack was no question a team effort as Adam Philbin (Cumberland, R.I.), Victor Ferreira (St. Michael, Portugal) and Josh Chao (New Bedford, Mass.) each registering three shots on goal.
UMass Dartmouth fired out of the gates, recording a goal only 2:42 minutes into play. Off a free kick, Philbin crossed a beautiful ball which found the foot of a sliding Chao. The shot was too strong for Panther's goalkeeper Felix Lindeberg (Stockholm, Sweden) to handle and squirted out of his hands. Corsair forward Aelaf Solomon (Framingham, Mass.) was in the right spot at the right time and put the ball in the back of the net for his fourth score of the season.
In the 80th minute, Ferreira pushed a shot into the net to record his team-high ninth goal of the season off a pass from Solomon.
Corsair goalkeeper Luis Carranza stopped earned a clean sheet, as well as his fifth win of the season. For the Panthers, Lindeberg recorded tens saves in the losing effort.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Bridgewater State for a non-conference game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
