Men's Soccer Drops Double Overtime Heartbreaker At Massachusetts Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Benjamin Cook’s (Fort Myers, Fla.) golden goal 54 seconds into the second overtime period lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 3-2 non-league college men’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Cook converted a feed from sophomore AJ Bubencik (Foxboro, Mass.) on the game-winner for the host Buccaneers (3-6-1), who he staked to the lead just 11:32 into the contest after taking a pass from sophomore Brady Lemmon (California, Md.).  Senior Jake Moreira (Burlington, Mass.) evened matters just 28 seconds later with an unassisted marker for the visiting Corsairs (0-9-1), but junior Adam Crawford (Kingston, Mass.) gave Massachusetts Maritime a 2-1 edge at the break after converting a feed from junior Andrew Wayrynen (Rockport, Mass.) with 6:35 remaining in the half.  Freshman Nate Chimm (Tiverton, R.I.) netted the equalizer for UMass Dartmouth in the 58th minute with his first collegiate marker, and after a scoreless first overtime, Cook provided the heroics for the hosts in the second extra frame.

Senior Connor Murphy (Mashpee, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a five-save effort for Massachusetts Maritime, while junior Danny Andrade (New Bedford, Mass.) made 12 stops in the setback for UMass Dartmouth.  The Buccaneers outshot the Corsairs by a 28-14 margin overall (15-7 on goal) and held a 12-5 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth heads to Castleton, Vt. on Saturday evening to take on Castleton in a Little East Conference outing beginning at 6:00 pm, while Massachusetts Maritime hosts Dean in a non-league clash on Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at 7:00 pm.
