BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- First half goals by juniors Stanislaus Sokolov (Reading, Mass.) and Shane Ebanks (Upton, Mass.) lifted Bridgewater State to a 2-1 non-league college men’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon at Swenson Field.
Sokolov gave the host Bears (3-11-1) the lead in the 15th minute when he converted feeds from freshman Joseph Madden Jr. (Milford, Mass.) and senior Justin Borges (Milford, Mass.), and Ebanks scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 34th minute after taking passes from junior Adam Gold (Norwood, Mass.) and sophomore Patrick Gildea (Bridgewater, Mass.). That margin held up until the closing minute of the match when freshman Eric Barry (Framingham, Mass.) converted feeds from senior Nate Pacheco (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Uan O’Brien (Hadley, Mass.) with 20 seconds to play to slice the visiting Corsairs’ (7-6-1) deficit in half, but Bridgewater State was able to run out the remaining time and post its triumph.
Senior Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a six-save effort for the Bears, while sophomore Chris Moussavi (Bellmore, N.Y.) recorded five stops in the setback for UMass Dartmouth. Bridgewater State outshot the Corsairs by a 20-16 margin overall and held a 12-6 advantage in corner kicks, as each team notched seven shots on goal for the contest.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Danbury, Conn. on Saturday afternoon to take on Western Connecticut in a Little East Conference outing beginning at 3:00 pm, while Bridgewater State heads to Fitchburg, Mass. on Saturday morning to square off with Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference clash that begins at 10:00 am.
