DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Both UMass Dartmouth swimming & diving teams opened their respective home schedules by splitting dual meet decisions with Bridgewater State on Tuesday evening at the Tripp Natatorium, as the Corsairs claimed a 135-104 victory on the men’s side while the Bears posted a 122-96 triumph in the women’s competition.
Juniors David Adamski (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) each recorded a pair of wins for the UMass Dartmouth men, as Adamski took top honors in both the 100 (49.83) and 200 yard freestyle (1:51.67) while Barrett was victorious in both the 500 (5:20.58) and 1,000 yard freestyle (11:01.39). Freshman Luc Durand (Belmont, Mass.) also captured two triumphs for the Corsairs in the 100 meter butterfly (57.46) and 400 individual medley (4:39.33), while sophomore Jose Guerrero (New Bedford, Mass.) picked up a pair of wins on the diving platform for the hosts in the one meter (227.90) and three meter (263.75) competition.
Junior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) claimed two victories on the women’s side for UMass Dartmouth, as she took top honors in both the 100 meter breaststroke (1:17.62) and 400 yard individual medley (5:06.24). Fellow junior Abigail Wilson (Newburyport, Mass.) won the 100 meter butterfly (1:11.46) for the Corsairs, who received triumphs from junior Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the 50 yard freestyle (26.42) and freshman Olivia Shaw (Middleboro, Mass.) in the one meter diving (100.20) competition. Murphy, Wilson, Harrington and freshman Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) teamed up to capture the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 4:31.27.
Both UMass Dartmouth squads return to action on Saturday afternoon when the Corsairs host the Seventh Annual Louise Goodrum Invitational at the Tripp Natatorium beginning at Noon.
