DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Both UMass Dartmouth swimming & diving teams closed out their respective first semester schedules by splitting dual-meet decisions with Clark at the Tripp Natatorium, as the Corsair men posted a 189-94 victory while the Corsair women dropped a 145-112 final to the Cougars.
Junior David Adamski (Wilbraham, Mass.) led the way on the men’s side by capturing three events on the day for UMass Dartmouth (3-2), as he triumphed in the 100 (50.35), 200 (1:48.88) and 500 yard freestyle (5:10.46) races. Sophomore Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.) posted a pair of wins in the 50 (29.38) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:03.30) for the Corsairs, who also received two victories from sophomore Cameron DiBenedetto (East Freetown, Mass.) in the 50 (28.58) and 100 yard backstroke (1:00.82). Freshman Luc Durand (Belmont, Mass.) claimed crowns in the 100 yard butterfly (57.32) and 1,000 yard freestyle (10:32.40) for the hosts, while sophomore Jose Guerrero (New Bedford, Mass.) won both the 1 meter (261.80) and 3 meter (245.30) diving competition.
UMass Dartmouth won both men’s relays events on the afternoon, as the quartet of DiBenedetto, Chung, senior Anthony Toscano (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Noah Yeskewicz (Middleboro, Mass.) posted a time of 3:53.90 in the 400 yard medley relay. The tandem of Durand, Adamski and juniors Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.) and Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) capped the Corsairs’ successful performance by taking the 800 yard freestyle relay in a time of 7:34.46.
On the women’s side, freshman Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) continued her impressive inaugural collegiate campaign by winning three events for UMass Dartmouth (1-5), as she triumphed in the 50 (30.02) and 100 yard backstroke (1:03.77) while claiming the 200 yard individual medley in a time of 2:21.56. Junior Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, Mass.) took top honors in the 50 yard freestyle (26.90) and posted a runner-up finish in the 100 yard freestyle (59.98) for the Corsairs, who received a pair of second place performances in the 50 (35.29) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.49) from junior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.).
The junior trio of Kayla Lovy (Londonderry, N.H.), Alissa Hall (Westboro, Mass.) and Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.) each recorded respective second place finishes in the 200 (2:16.29), 500 (6:04.12) and 1,000 yard freestyle (12:22.61) for the hosts, who also received a runner-up performance in the 50 yard butterfly (29.72) from junior Abigail Wilson (Newburyport, Mass.).
Both UMass Dartmouth squads will be idle until Wednesday, January 16, 2019 when the Corsairs host Wheaton and WPI in a tri-meet at the Tripp Natatorium that begins at 6:30 pm.
