DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Both UMass Dartmouth swimming and diving teams enjoyed solid performances in hosting the Seventh Annual Louise Goodrum Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Center Natatorium.
Junior Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) was a double-winner in both the 200 (1:53.42) and 500 (5:14.06) meter freestyle for the Corsair men’s squad in the non-scoring event, while sophomore Jose Guerrero (New Bedford, Mass.) took top honors in both the one meter (250.35) and three meter (246.75) diving competition. Sophomore Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.) claimed the top spot in the 50 meter breaststroke (28.92) for UMass Dartmouth, which received a first place performance from freshman Luc Durand (Belmont, Mass.) in the 1,650 mixed freestyle (17:50.08).
Durand added respective second and fourth place finishes in the 100 meter butterfly (57.18) and 100 meter freestyle (52.18) for the Corsairs, who received a trio of top five performances from junior David Adamski (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the 1,650 mixed freestyle (17:52.01 – 2nd), 100 yard backstroke (59.59 – 4th) and 50 yard backstroke (28.10 – 5th). Chung added a third place performance in the 100 yard individual medley (1:00.14) for UMass Dartmouth, which received a pair of third place finishes from sophomore Dodhy Saint-Amand (Brockton, Mass.) in the one meter (190.00) and three meter (169.95) diving competition. Barrett and sophomore Noah Yeskewicz (Middleboro, Mass.) added respective fourth place performances in the 100 yard butterfly (59.63) and the 50 meter breaststroke (31.13) for the Corsair men, who received a fifth place finish in the 100 yard individual medley (1:01.57) from freshman Nathan Motisi (Ellington, Conn.) to go with a pair of fifth place performances from senior Anthony Toscano (Massapequa, N.Y.) in the 50 (24.41) and 100 yard (53.03) freestyle.
On the women’s side, freshman Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) posted a trio of fourth place finishes in the 50 (30.12) and 100 (1:07.50) yard backstroke as well as the 100 yard individual medley (1:07.95), while junior Abigail Wilson (Newburyport, Mass.) notched a pair of fourth place performances in the 50 (29.42) and 100 yard (1:08.94) butterfly for UMass Dartmouth. Junior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) was third in the 500 yard freestyle (5:47.69) for the Corsairs, who received a fifth place finish from fellow junior Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the 50 yard freestyle (26.63).
Kovach, Murphy, Wilson and Harrington teamed up for a pair of top five relay performances as well for UMass Dartmouth, as the quartet finished as the runner-up in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:49.13) while adding a fifth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay (2:02.50). The men’s tandem of Toscano, Durand, Adamski and freshman Eric Worden (Portland, Maine) placed second in the 200 yard freestyle relay (11:35.50) for the Corsairs, who received a third place performance from Chung, Durand, Adamski and sophomore Cameron DiBenedetto (East Freetown, Mass.) in the 200 yard medley relay (1:47.07).
Both UMass Dartmouth squads return to action next Saturday afternoon by hosting Roger Williams in dual-meet competition at the Tripp Center Natatorium beginning at 1:00 pm.
