WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Both UMass Dartmouth swimming & diving teams completed their respective first semester schedules with dual-meet action on Saturday afternoon, as the Corsair men notched a 178-39 triumph over Colby-Sawyer at Westfield State’s Ely Pool. The Corsair women split their two dual-meets on the day, as UMass Dartmouth notched a 137-123 triumph over the host Owls while dropping a 134-127 decision to the Chargers.
Freshman Danielle Klash (Gardner, Mass.) continued her solid rookie campaign on the women’s side for UMass Dartmouth (2-5), as she took top honors in both the 500 (5:42.36) and 1000 yard freestyle (11:37.12) while adding a runner-up finish in the 100 yard freestyle (1:02.27). Seniors Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) and Kayla Lovy (Londonderry, N.H.) also recorded respective first place performances in the 200 (2:08.82) and 100 yard (1:00.72) freestyle events for the Corsairs, while sophomore Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) posting a winning time in the 400 yard individual medley (4:59.90) and a runner-up finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.14). The quartet of Lovy, Klash, Murphy and senior Alissa Hall (Westboro, Mass.) combined for a second place performance in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:50.86.
Junior Noah Yeskewicz (Middleboro, Mass.) set the pace on the men’s side for the Corsairs (2-4), as he posted a trio of top finishes in the 50 yard breaststroke (30.80), 50 yard butterfly (25.96) and 400 yard individual medley (4:48.62). Senior Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded a pair of first place performances in the 200 yard freestyle (1:54.85) and 100 yard butterfly (59.53) for UMass Dartmouth, while junior Dodhy Saint-Amand (Brockton, Mass.) swept the one (205.20) and three meter (195.00) diving competitions.
Senior Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) joined juniors Cameron DiBenedetto (East Freetown, Mass.) and Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.) in claiming respective top honors in the 500 yard freestyle (5:23.79), 100 yard backstroke (1:00.42) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:05.23) for the Corsairs, who also received first place finishes from freshmen Jonathan Colascione (West Islip, N.Y.) and Devon Foster (Northbridge, Mass.) in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:10.85) and 50 yard backstroke (29.17).
The tandem of DiBenedetto, Chung, Yeskewicz and Foster claimed the 200 yard medley relay title with a time of 1:48.16, while DiBendetto and Foster were joined by sophomores Eric Worden (Portland, Maine) and Nathan Motisi (Ellington, Conn.) in winning the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.04.
Both UMass Dartmouth squads will be idle until Wednesday, January 15th when the Corsairs welcome Keene State and Western Connecticut to the Tripp Natatorium for a tri-meet that begins at 5:30 pm.
