WALTHAM, MA-Both members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team performed well on the second and final day of competition at the two-day, New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships, which concluded Sunday at Bentley's Dana Center Pool.

For the men, freshman Christian Francia (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet HS) finished first in three-meter diving with 362.15 points. He had finished sixth in the one-meter competition Saturday, with 338.25 points.

For the women, sophomore Cecilia Rius (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery HS), who placed seventh in one-meter diving Saturday with a score of 319.15 points, was sixth in three-meter diving Sunday with 297.05 points.

"After the preliminary round, Christian had to fight back to finish first in the finals," said UMass Dartmouth Diving Coach Danielle Morley. "For a freshman, winning New Englands is a big deal. Cecilia has improved so much this year, and finished sixth in a very strong field, I'm very happy for both Christian and Cecilia."

The Corsairs will return to action at the NEISDA Swimming Championships next weekend at White River Junction, VT.
