Men's Tennis Drops 8-1 Dual-Match Decision At Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --  Four different players each won in singles and doubles action to lead Western New England to an 8-1 non-league college men’s tennis dual-match victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon on the Volvo Outdoor Courts.

Seniors David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) posted straight set triumphs at the top two singles spots and combined for an 8-2 win at number one doubles for the host Golden Bears (1-0), who also received victories from senior Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.), juniors Max Gordon (Middleton, Mass.) and Matthew Russell (Auburn, Mass.) as well as freshman Sebastian Smreczak (Auburn, Mass.) to complete the singles sweep.  Arnold and Smreczak teamed up for Western New England’s other point of the day with an 8-4 win at number three doubles.

Juniors Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.) and Baylen Harper (Leicester, Mass.) collected the lone point of the match in the setback for the visiting Corsairs (0-2), as they teamed up for an 8-4 triumph at the number two doubles spot.
