Another Record Falls at ECAC Championships

NEW YORK, NY-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team broke another school record on the first day of competition at the two day Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at the New Balance Armory Friday.

In the 4 x 200 meter relay, the team of freshman LaQuaysha Anderson-Jenkins (Brighton, MA/Brighton HS), freshman Barbara Okafor (Hyde Park, MA/Boston Latin HS), freshman Michele-Le Miranda (Somerville, MA/Somerville HS) and senior Jill Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS broke the school record by nearly two seconds, finishing fourth overall in 1:43.66.

Van Ness finished in 8.11 seconds in the 60 meter trials, but did not advance, while freshman Grunde Brandso (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) threw the shot put 45 feet, three inches.

"Our women did a great job in the relay," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "Our assistant coach, Hal Miller, has done a great job with them all year, and I'm looking forward to seeing them run the 4 x 4 tomorrow. Grunde had an outstanding freshman season, and I'm pleased with the job he did."

The meet will conclude Saturday.
