UMass Dartmouth sophomore Andrew Swallow and freshman Cameron Rodgers were named as the respective Little East Conference Men’s Indoor Field Athlete & Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon for their performances in last Saturday’s season-opening competition at the Brandeis Reggie Poyau Invitational.
Swallow, a native of Framingham, Mass. and a graduate of Framingham High School, picked up where he left off last season, as the 2018-19 league Field Rookie of the Year collected a victory in the shot put (14.99 meters/49 feet, 2 ¼ inches) for the fourth best indoor mark in school history for the Corsairs. Rodgers, a native of Fall River, Mass. and a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, shined in his collegiate debut by posting a pair of third place finishes in the 60 meter hurdles (8.72) and high jump (1.90 meters/6 feet, 2 ¾ inches) while adding a sixth place performance in the long jump (6.07 meters/19 feet, 11 inches). Cameron also ran a leg of the runner-up 4 x 400 meter relay that posted a time of 3:31.83 in the event.
Head Coach Mike Salem’s squad, which finished fifth overall among 12 teams competing on the day, returns to action on Saturday, January 18th when UMass Dartmouth travels to the Tufts Invitational.
