Men's Cross Country Finishes 20th At NCAA New England Regionals

BRUNSWICK, Maine --  Both UMass Dartmouth cross country teams closed out their respective 2019 campaigns with solid performances at the NCAA Division III New England Regionals hosted by Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon, as the Corsair men placed 20th and the Corsair women finished 33rd in a field of 54 teams competing in the event.

Sophomore Steve Stromski (Melrose, Mass.) set the pace on the men’s side for UMass Dartmouth, as he covered the 8K Pickard Fields course in a time of 26:17.7 that was good for 66th place in a field of 384 runners.  Freshman Austin Carroll (Norton, Mass.) followed in 70th place with a time of 26:20.6, while junior Bruno Pires (New Bedford, Mass.) finished 128th in a time of 27:07.6.  Seniors Mike Tierney (Norton, Mass.) and Travis Dolcine (Somerville, Mass.) rounded out the Corsair scoring quintet with respective 191st and 216th place finishing times of 28:09.3 and 28:30.8, as Williams took top honors with a score of 24 points to top runner-up Colby (93) and third place MIT (107) in the competition.

Junior Taylor Walsh (Groveland, Mass.) led the way in the women’s race with a 134th place individual finish in a field of 380 runners, as she covered the 6K layout in a time of 23:57.8 for UMass Dartmouth.  Senior Jess O’Reilly (Millis, Mass.) and junior Jennifer Jackson (Harwich, Mass.) followed with respective 145th and 237th place performances of 24:05.5 and 25:45.1, while graduate student Kira Judd (Garrettsville, Ohio) and sophomore Jackie Broderick (Wilmington, Mass.) rounded out the Corsair scoring with times of 25:57.0 and 26:07.2 that were good for 243rd and 252nd place.  Williams also claimed the women’s crown with a score of 64 points, as the Ephs topped runner-up MIT (84) and third place Tufts (156).
