UMass Dartmouth senior forward Nakira Examond has been named as a pre-season All-America by D3hoops.com for a second straight season, as she was tabbed as a third team honoree by the national organization.

A native of New Bedford, Mass. and a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, Examond garnered honorable mention All-America accolades from D3hoops.com last season after earning first-team all-Little East Conference honors for a second straight year.  Nakira, the league’s Player of the Year following her sophomore campaign of 2016-17, led Head Coach Matt Ducharme’s Corsairs in scoring (19.7 ppg), rebounding (10.3 rpg) and field goal percentage (58.0), and she also set the school single-game scoring mark with 41 points in a triumph over Western Connecticut.

Examond became the 24th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000 point mark during UMass Dartmouth’s unbeaten Little East regular season run, and she enters her final season looking to become the first player to reach the 1,000 point and 1,000 rebound career plateaus.  Nakira ranks seventh on the Corsair career scoring list (1,196 points) and has helped lead Ducharme’s squad to Little East regular season and tournament titles as well as a trip to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight in 2017.

UMass Dartmouth begins regular season play on Tuesday, November 13th by hosting Bridgewater State in a non-league outing at the Tripp Athletic Center at 5:30 pm EST.  The Corsairs will play an exhibition contest on Halloween evening at Division I Massachusetts beginning at 7:00 pm EDT.
