DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Sophomore Kylie Dias’s (Fall River, Mass.) goal 1:49 into the third quarter held up as the game-winner and lifted UMass Dartmouth to a 1-0 Little East Conference field hockey victory over Eastern Connecticut Tuesday evening at Cressy Field.
After a scoreless first half of action, Dias provided the only tally that the host Corsairs (3-5, 1-3 LEC) would need by converting a breakaway from 10 yards out for her second marker of the season, and junior Katelyn Banalewicz (Fall River, Mass.) made that stand up with a seven-save effort in goal to record her first career shutout.
Junior Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn.) also made seven stops in the setback for the visiting Warriors (2-7, 2-3 LEC), as UMass Dartmouth outshot Eastern Connecticut by a 13-12 margin overall (8-7 on goal) and held a 4-3 edge in penalty corners for the contest.
UMass Dartmouth hosts 19th-ranked Babson in a non-league matchup on Thursday evening at Cressy Field beginning at 7:00 pm, while Eastern Connecticut hosts Castleton in a Little East Conference clash on Saturday afternoon in Mansfield, Conn. that begins at Noon.
