DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior Maggie Redman’s (Alfred, Maine) late first quarter goal held up as the game-winner and lifted Southern Maine to a 1-0 Little East Conference field hockey victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday evening at Cressy Field.
Redman converted a deflected pass off the stick of senior Abbie Staples (Alfred, Maine) 9:43 into the contest for the visiting Huskies (11-8, 9-2 LEC), and sophomore Lindsay Pych (West Milford, N.J.) made that stand up with a three-save effort in goal to notch her 11th win and eighth shutout of the fall.
Junior Katleyn Banalewicz (Fall River, Mass.) recorded 11 stops in the setback for the host Corsairs (7-9, 5-6 LEC), as Southern Maine outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 17-5 margin overall (13-5 on goal) but saw the Corsairs hold a 7-6 edge in penalty corners for the contest.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Wellesley, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Wellesley in a non-league match beginning at 4:00 pm, while Southern Maine will be idle until next Saturday afternoon when the Huskies entertain Castleton in a Little East Conference clash in Gorham, Maine that begins at 3:00 pm.
