Women's Lacrosse Drops Non-League Matchup At Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. --  Sophomore Kaity Doherty (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored six goals and added an assist for seven points to lead Salve Regina to a 22-10 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over UMass Dartmouth Monday evening at Gaudet Field.

Junior Maddie Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) added six goals in the triumph for the host Seahawks (7-5), who accounted for five of the game’s first six tallies and took control of the contest by netting eight unanswered markers in a 17-plus minute stretch.  Senior Lindsey Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) collected four goals and three assists for Salve Regina, which received a hat trick and five helpers from junior Kiley Anderson (East Greenwich, R.I.) to go with a goal and two assists off the stick of freshman Nicole Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.).

Junior Sam Muir (Sturbridge, Mass.) tallied five times in the setback for the visiting Corsairs (4-11), who received four goals from senior Brooke Martel (Haverhill, Mass.).  Freshman Carrianne Fortier (Oxford, Mass.) accounted for the other marker of the match for UMass Dartmouth, which received an assist off the stick of junior Courtnee Nagim-Chase (Mattapan, Mass.).

Sophomore Christina Myers (River Edge, N.J.) picked up the win in goal with six saves in 45-plus minutes of action for Salve Regina, while senior Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) made five first half stops in the setback for the Corsairs.  Junior Bridget Harrington (Florence, Mass.) also made five saves in the final 30 minutes of play in net for UMass Dartmouth, as the Seahawks outshot the Corsairs by a 43-23 margin overall (32-17 on goal) and held a 24-10 edge in draw controls for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth heads to Gorham, Maine on Wednesday evening to take on Southern Maine in a Little East Conference outing beginning at 7:00 pm, while Salve Regina travels to Springfield, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference clash with Western New England that begins at 4:00 pm.
