Dartmouth, Mass. -- UMass Dartmouth senior back Kayla Loycano is one of 11 student-athletes to be named to the 2018 Google Cloud Division III Women’s Soccer Academic All-District team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as she is now eligible for selection to the Division III National Academic All-America team that will be announced later this month.
A native of Chelmsford, Mass. and a graduate of Chelmsford High School, Loycano boasts a 3.97 cumulative grade point average as a Bioengineering major at the University, as the Corsair tri-captain was named earlier this week as a 2018 Little East second-team all-conference honoree. Kayla joins student-athletes from schools in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont that comprise CoSIDA’s District 1 in the Academic All-America program.
Loycano anchored UMass Dartmouth’s defensive unit that registered six total shutouts and 1.31 team goals against average, as the Corsairs allowed one or fewer goals in 13 of their 20 contests on the season. Kayla helped Head Coach Elise Cloutier’s squad earn its eighth straight Little East post-season berth with seven overall victories and five ties, and she started in 63 of 67 matches played during her career.
Loycano, the only Little East student-athlete on the Academic All-District team, is bidding to become the second Academic All-America honoree in school history, as former Corsair women’s track & cross country standout Deanna Bealby earned the accolade in 2008.
