BOSTON, Mass. -- Senior Jaclyn O’Grady’s (Somers, Conn.) goal with 1:39 remaining in regulation lifted UMass Boston to a 2-2 double overtime Little East Conference women’s soccer draw with UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Cotter Field.
The host Beacons (6-3-1, 2-0-1 LEC) trailed by a goal twice in the contest, as junior Nerida Montrond (Lynn, Mass.) staked the visiting Corsairs (3-5-3, 1-1-2 LEC) to the early advantage just 6:52 into the match with an unassisted tally. UMass Boston evened matters in the 36th minute when freshman Allie Crawford (Kingston, Mass.) converted a pass from fellow freshman Mary Jo Murphy (Worcester, Mass.) for her second marker of the season, but Montrond gave UMass Dartmouth the lead once again in the 77th minute when she rifled a shot off the far post and in for her third goal of the fall. O’Grady then provided the heroics on the late equalizer for the hosts, as she took feeds from Crawford and freshman Jahlyla Ocampo (Braintree, Mass.) to once again even the score with her third tally of the season, as the Beacons took nine of the 10 shots in the two scoreless extra sessions.
Sophomore Jaimee O’Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) made a career-high 12 saves in the tie for UMass Dartmouth, while freshman Abby McCulloch (Weymouth, Mass.) recorded five stops in the draw for UMass Boston. The Beacons outshot the Corsairs by a 30-13 margin overall (14-7 on goal) and held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks for the contest.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Leicester, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on Becker in a non-league match beginning at 6:00 pm, while UMass Boston hosts Curry in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Cotter Field that begins at 7:00 pm.
