WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Freshman Jillian Prout’s (Dartmouth, Mass.) first collegiate goal with 4:45 remaining in the second overtime lifted UMass Dartmouth to a 1-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Westfield State Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.
Prout converted a pass from junior Nerida Montrond (Lynn, Mass.) on the golden goal for the visiting Corsairs (7-6-5), as she slipped a shot in from the right side of the cage. Sophomore Jaimee O’Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) made that stand up with seven saves to earn her sixth win and fifth shutout of the season for UMass Dartmouth, while senior Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.) also made seven stops in the setback for the host Owls (7-6-2), who outshot the Corsairs by a 20-18 margin overall and took six of the seven corner kicks in the contest.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Worcester State in its regular season finale on Thursday evening at Cressy Field beginning at 7:00 pm, while Westfield State travels to Salem, Mass. on Saturday evening to take on Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference clash that also begins at 7:00 pm.
