PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior Jennifer Woehl’s (Aberdeen, S.D.) goal with 24 seconds remaining in the first half held up as the game-winner and led UMass Dartmouth to a 1-0 Little East Conference women’s soccer victory over Rhode Island College Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Woehl converted passes from senior Nerida Montrond (Lynn, Mass.) and junior Breana Cordeiro (New Bedford, Mass.) on the deciding tally for the visiting Corsairs (3-10, 1-4 LEC), which was her second career goal. Junior Jaimee O’Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) made that stand up in net by making 11 saves to record her first clean sheet of the season for UMass Dartmouth, including seven in the opening 45 minutes of action alone.
Senior Erica Edwards (North Kingstown, R.I.) made seven stops in the setback for the host Anchorwomen (3-11, 0-6 LEC), as Rhode Island College outshot the Corsairs by a 19-16 margin overall (12-8 on goal) and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Keene, N.H. on Saturday afternoon to take on Keene State in a Little East Conference match beginning at 1:00 pm, while Rhode Island College hosts UMass Boston in a Little East clash on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field that also begins at 1:00 pm.
