NEWPORT, R.I. -- Junior Carah Cote (Adams, Mass.) netted a hat trick to lead Salve Regina to a 3-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon at Brother Reynolds Field.
Cote gave the host Seahawks (5-3) the only goal they would need in the 11th minute after converting a feed from senior Emily Szemreylo (Marlborough, Conn), and she added her second tally of the day on a pass from freshman Meagan McLaughlin (East Hampton, Conn.) in the 23rd minute of action. Cote completed her hat trick with an unassisted marker in the 60th minute that accounted for the final margin, and sophomore Isabel Valerio (Proctor, Vt.) made that stand up with a seven-save effort in goal to record the clean sheet.
Junior Jaimee O’Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) made 12 stops in the setback for the visiting Corsairs (1-5), as Salve Regina outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 22-16 margin overall (15-7 on goal) and took five of the six corner kicks in the contest.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Plymouth, N.H. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Plymouth State in a Little East Conference match beginning at 1:00 pm, while Salve Regina heads to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Lesley in a non-league clash that begins at 8:00 pm.
