DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Both UMass Dartmouth swimming and diving teams opened their respective home schedules by dropping a pair of dual-meet decisions to Babson on Friday afternoon at the Tripp Natatorium, as the Corsair men fell by a 156-67 margin to the Beavers while the Corsair women dropped a 133-66 decision.
Freshman Danielle Klash (Gardner, Mass.) took top honors in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:47.62) while adding a third place finish in the 500 yard freestyle (5:48.49) on the women’s side for UMass Dartmouth, which received a pair of second place performances from sophomore Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) in the 200 individual medley (2:25.10) and 100 yard backstroke (1:04.95). Senior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) was second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.78) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:09.50) for the Corsairs, who received a pair of third place finishes in the 50 (28.00) and 100 yard freestyle (1:01.93) from senior Kayla Lovy (Londonderry, N.H.).
Senior Alissa Hall (Westboro, Mass.) and freshman Morgan Beebe (Ellington, Conn.) added respective third place performances in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:33.34) and 100 yard butterfly (1:07.76) for UMass Dartmouth, which received a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay from the quartet of Hall, Lovy, junior Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.) and freshman Aubrey Endress (Belchertown, Mass.).
Junior Dodhy Saint-Amand (Brockton, Mass.) set the pace in the men’s competition by taking top honors in both the 1 meter (183.50) and 3 meter (175.55) diving, as five other Corsairs posted third place performances in their respective events. Senior Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.) joined sophomores Nathan Motisi (Ellington, Conn.) and Eric Worden (Portland, Maine) in recording third place finishes in the 200, 1000 and 100 freestyles with times of 1:57.97, 11:03.86 and 53.41, while senior Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) and juniors Cameron DiBenedetto (East Freetown, Mass.) and Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.) were third in the 500 yard freestyle (5:23.95), 100 yard backstroke (1:00.38) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.16), respectively.
The tandem of DiBenedetto, Chung, junior Noah Yeskewicz (Middleboro, Mass.) and freshman Devon Foster (Northbridge, Mass.) notched a second place performance in the 200 yard medley relay for UMass Dartmouth with a time of 1:46.16.
Both UMass Dartmouth squads head to Bridgewater, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Bridgewater State in dual-meet action beginning at 6:00 pm, while the Babson women travel to Worcester, Mass. next Friday evening for a meet with host WPI, Brandeis, Simmons and Smith that begins at 6:30 pm. The Babson men will also square off with WPI and Brandeis next Friday evening in Worcester for a tri-meet beginning at 6:30 pm.
