Women's Tennis Reaches 10-Win Plateau With Little East Sweep At Castleton

RUTLAND, Vt. --  The UMass Dartmouth women’s tennis team closed out its regular season schedule by reaching the 10-win plateau for the sixth time in seven years and the 12th time in program history with a 9-0 Little East Conference dual-match sweep of Castleton at the Grand Slam Tennis Club.

Senior Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.), along with juniors Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Monika Reining (Linsengericht, Germany), were winners in both singles and doubles play on the day for the visiting Corsairs (10-4, 6-3 LEC), who also received straight set singles triumphs from sophomores Michelle and Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) and sophomore Emma Sokolovsky (Canton, Mass.).

Lahaie and Fastino teamed up for an 8-5 victory at number one doubles, while Reining and junior Natasha Shiku (North Grafton, Mass.) notched an 8-1 win at the number two spot.  The sophomore tandem of Jordan Martin (Taunton, Mass.) and Molly O’Donnell (Danvers, Mass.) helped complete the Corsair sweep with an 8-6 triumph at the number three doubles position, as UMass Dartmouth has won six or more conference matches in three straight campaigns.

UMass Dartmouth is guaranteed a spot in next week’s Little East Conference championship field, as seedings for the 2018 tournament will be announced by the league office over the weekend.  Today’s match marked the season finale for the host Spartans, who end the year at 3-10 overall and 0-8 in Little East action.
