DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Four different players combined for singles and doubles triumphs on the day, as Bridgewater State clinched a berth in the Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Championships with a 6-3 league dual-match victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at the Dartmouth Indoor Tennis Club.
Graduate student Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.), seniors Emma Mills (Westport, Mass.) & Angelique Gray (Barnstable, Mass.) and junior Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) accounted for all six points in the contest for the visiting Bears (6-8, 5-4 LEC), as the quartet won their respective singles matches in straight sets. Sweeney and Mills teamed up for an 8-1 win at the number two doubles spot for Bridgewater State, which received an 8-3 triumph at the number three position from the tandem of Tarantino and Gray.
Freshman Lauren Morgart (Weston, Mass.) closed out her rookie campaign with wins in singles and doubles action in the season-ending setback for the host Corsairs (7-8, 3-6 LEC), as she notched a straight set win at number one singles and teamed up with senior Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) for an 8-3 victory at the top doubles spot. Junior Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) provided UMass Dartmouth’s other point of the match with a three-set triumph at number four singles, including a 7-6 (7-4) win in the deciding set.
