Women's Tennis Sweeps 9-0 Little East Decision At Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. --  Three different individuals posted wins in both singles and doubles action to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 9-0 Little East Conference women’s tennis dual-match sweep of Castleton Saturday afternoon on the UMD Courts.

Freshman Lauren Morgart (Weston, Mass.) and senior Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) each notched straight set wins at the top two singles spots and teamed up for an 8-3 triumph at number one doubles for the visiting Corsairs (5-2, 1-1 LEC), who also received straight set singles victories from juniors Michelle & Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.), senior Melanie Wong (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomore Jackie Bokis (Spencer, Mass.) in the final four singles spots.

Michelle Aftandilian and fellow junior Jordan Martin (Taunton, Mass.) combined for an 8-6 triumph at number two doubles for UMass Dartmouth, which completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at the number three doubles position from the tandem of senior Natasha Shiku (North Grafton, Mass.) and junior Hana Hershey (North Attleboro, Mass.).

The host Spartans fell to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in Little East play with the setback.

UMass Dartmouth hosts Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference dual-match on Tuesday afternoon on the UMD Courts beginning at 3:30 pm, while Castleton travels to Plymouth, N.H. on Tuesday afternoon for a Little East matchup with Plymouth State that begins at 4:00 pm.
