SALEM, Mass. -- Senior Meredith MacDonald (Lynn, Mass.) was victorious in both singles and doubles action to lead Salem State to a 5-3 Little East Conference women’s tennis dual-match triumph over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon on the SSU Courts.
MacDonald won in straight sets at number four singles and teamed up with senior Anastasia Startseva (Volgograd, Russia) for an 8-6 victory at the top doubles spot for the host Vikings (2-4, 2-4 LEC), who also received singles triumphs from senior Alexandria Floyd (Burlington, Mass.) and junior Caroline Robitaille (South Hadley, Mass.). Salem State was awarded its fifth point at number two doubles due to an injury, as that contest was unable to be completed.
Senior Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) and sophomore Jackie Bokis (Spencer, Mass.) recorded straight set triumphs at the second and sixth singles spots, respectively, in the setback for the visiting Corsairs (7-4, 3-3 LEC), which received its other point when juniors Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) and Hana Hershey (North Attleboro, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-6 victory at number three doubles. Freshman Lauren Morgart (Weston, Mass.) led 7-5, 4-4 in her match at the top singles spot with Startseva for UMass Dartmouth, but the contest was abandoned due to darkness.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Johnson & Wales in a non-league dual-match on Thursday afternoon on the UMD Courts beginning at 3:30 pm, while Salem State entertains Curry in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon on the SSU Courts that also begins at 3:30 pm.
