Four Earn LEC Track and Field Weekly Honors

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Four members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's indoor track and field team earned weekly Little East Conference honors as a result of their performances at the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships at the New Balance Track and Field Center this weekend.

Sophomore Jessica Masse (Somerville, MA/Somerville HS) was named Little East Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, junior Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS) was named LEC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, sophomore Chris Perry (Providence, RI/Dighton-Rehoboth HS/BCC) was named LEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, and freshman Aaron Amado (Randolph, MA/Thayer Academy) was named LEC Men's Rookie Field Athlete of the Week.

Van Ness finished fourth in the 200 meter dash in 25.61 seconds, was 15th in the 60 meter dash in 7.99 seconds, and was a member of the distance medley relay team that finished in 15:21.05.

Masse finished third in the shot put at 41 feet, five inches, earning All-ECAC Division III honors.

Perry finished first in the long jump at the ECAC Championships Saturday, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships with a mark of 23 feet, 11 1/2 inches. He also finished second in the triple jump at 47 feet, 10 1/2 inches.

Amado was seventh in the triple jump at 45-5 1/2 and earned All-ECAC Division III honors.

"Chris had an outstanding weekend, winning the long jump with his all-time best mark, setting a school record and qualifying for nationals," said UMass Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "He did a nice job the previous evening as well, finishing second in the triple jump and scoring 18 of our team's 32 points. Jessica has come on strong at the end of the season. She has now been in the top three of the ECAC meet two meets in a row, counting last spring and then now. It's a nice way for her to finish her indoor season. For Aaron, it was also a nice finish to his indoor season. He has done well as a freshman, and we're looking forward to him continuing his success indoors. I was really pleased to see Jillian improve on her own school record after running the 400 meter leg in the relay the night before. It sets her up well for the outdoor season."

Perry and freshman sprinter Phito Gondre (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) will compete at the NCAA Division III Championships at Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA this weekend. .
