CAMBRIDGE, MA-Two school records were broken and three more members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's outdoor track and field team earned All-New England honors on the second and final day of competition at the Open New England Championships Saturday at MIT's Henry G. Steinbrenner '27 Stadium.

Freshman Phito Gondre (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) finished second at 100 meters, setting a school record with a time of 10.76 seconds and finishing two-hundredths of a second out of first place. Sophomore Matt Hinthorne (Braintree, MA/Braintree HS) finished fourth at 800 meters and also set a school record, with a time of 1:52.85. Freshman Aaron Amado (Randolph, MA/Thayer Academy) was sixth in the high jump at 6-4 ¾, and all three Corsairs earned All-New England honors.

Freshman Adam Jones (Amesbury, MA/Triton Regional HS) jumped 6-2 ¾ in the high jump, senior Robert Yarbough (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) threw the shot put 47 feet, 2 ½ inches, freshman Katie Sheehan (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS) ran the 3000 meter steeplechase in 12:21.89, sophomore Jessica Masse (Somerville, MA/Somerville HS) threw the shot put 37 feet, 9 ½ inches, and senior Brittany Cole (Dartmouth, MA/ Dartmouth HS) threw the shot put 35-8 ¼.

"Overall, we're pleased with our performance this weekend," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "We were facing the best competition in New England, and to lose by two hundredths of a second at 100 meters and set a school record, and to have someone else show remarkable improvement over the last year and also set a school record is very good. Aaron Amado has to juggle his training schedule, because he has a demanding academic schedule as a graphic design major, and it was good to see him be successful."

The Corsairs will compete at the Eastern College Athletic Championships next weekend.
