DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Sophomore Anna Barry (Andover, Conn.) notched 11 kills and four block assists to lead Eastern Connecticut to a 3-0 victory over UMass Dartmouth in the Little East Conference volleyball opener for both teams Friday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Junior Alaetra Long (Lincoln, Neb.) added eight kills and 10 digs for the visiting Warriors (5-4, 1-0 LEC), who received seven and five kills, respectively, from juniors Abby Stern (Manchester, Conn.) and Lauren Notholt (Milford, Conn.). Senior Mckenzie Maneggia (Andover, Conn.) collected 18 set assists and seven digs for Eastern Connecticut, which received eight set assists and five digs from senior Sierra Orr (Woodland, Wash.) along with 13 digs and eight set assists from sophomore Madison Bell (Salem, Conn.).
Senior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) registered nine kills and seven digs in the setback for the host Corsairs (1-6, 0-1 LEC), who received seven kills from sophomore Mallory Singer (Succasunna, N.J.) and five kills from junior Tashneal Africa (Chelsea, Mass.). Junior Alivia Connors (Derry, N.H.) and sophomore Emma Aillet (Deer Park, Tex.) combined for seven kills for UMass Dartmouth, which received 13 set assists and six digs from senior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.), 19 digs from senior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) and nine set assists from freshman Courtney Carreiro (Dartmouth, Mass.).
UMass Dartmouth travels to Leicester, Mass. on Saturday morning for a non-league tri-match with host Becker and Fisher beginning at 11:00 am, while Eastern Connecticut heads to St. Davids, Pa. to square off with Eastern in a non-league clash that begins at 2:30 pm.
