DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded 11 kills and eight digs to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victory over Regis by set scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 27-25 in a match played Tuesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Sophomore Mallory Singer (Succasunna, N.J.) added eight kills and four total blocks in the triumph for the host Corsairs (1-5), who received five kills and three block assists from sophomore Emma Aillet (Deer Park, Tex.) and four kills from junior Alivia Connors (Derry, N.H.). Junior Tashneal Africa (Chelsea, Mass.) and freshman Emma Spach (Billerica, Mass.) chipped in with three kills each for the winners, who received 14 set assists and six digs from freshman Courtney Carreiro (Dartmouth, Mass.) and 11 set assists and eight digs from senior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.). Senior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) collected 15 digs, five set assists and two service aces for UMass Dartmouth, which received 14 digs from freshman Vanessa Barreto (Natick, Mass.).
Senior Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) notched nine kills and 10 digs in the setback for the visiting Pride (3-6), which received six kills from freshman Nia Pires (Cambridge, Mass.) and four kills each from sophomore Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) and freshmen Samantha Silveira (East Taunton, Mass.) & Olivia Pacheco (Waterford, Conn.). Junior Toni Ondris (Mineola, N.Y.) and sophomore Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) combined for 26 set assists and eight digs for Regis, which received three kills from sophomore Kate Flemming (Woburn, Mass.) and 15 digs from sophomore Mica van der Meulen (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
UMass Dartmouth hosts Eastern Connecticut in its Little East Conference opener on Friday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 pm, while Regis entertains Plymouth State in a non-league outing on Thursday evening in Weston, Mass. that begins at 6:00 pm.
