Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team defeated visiting Husson and Salem State in a pair of non-conference volleyball matches at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday. UMass Dartmouth defeated Husson, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-18, and defeated Salem State, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-16. In the other match, Husson defeated Salem State, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-20.

Sophomore middle hitter Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) led the Corsairs in the Husson match with nine kills and added seven against SSC, junior outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk HS) had 13 kills against Salem State and six against Husson, junior outside hitter Lauren Safioleas (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had eight kills against the Vikings, and senior middle blocker Amanda Langfield (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS) had five against Husson. Freshman setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 42 assists in the two matches, senior libero Aly Zagame (Greenfield, MA/Greenfield HS) had 15 digs in the two matches, and sophomore libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) added 10 against Salem State.

"It was definitely a productive weekend following a disappointing loss earlier in the week," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "It was nice to put three good performances together. Web worked hard in practice this week, our team reacted the right way, and it worked out. "

UMass Dartmouth is now 14-6, while Husson is now 6-10 and Salem State is now 5-18. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Clark and MCLA in a three-way match next Saturday. Husson will host St. Joseph's (ME) Tuesday evening, while Salem State will host Mass Maritime Monday.
